Just spoke to Richard, and then the courier company. Mine will be delivered within half an hour! Pictures tonight. Do you think I can build it in one night?

you might be able to build it in one night, but it wont be done properly!
Mine is due to be with me tomorrow (thursday) so here's hoping. Must purchase some "cutting" grease from halfords to "bed" those gears in more quickly!

Cutting grease!?How you find that out?Any more tips like that for the X10 that would be useful? Cheers! Ahhh... that would be telling! It's something that I do on all of my gearboxes (on model cars of course!). I only use a tiny amount smeared across the top of the main gear in the gearbox, and then spin it up on the bench for a few minutes. After that, I strip the 'box down, completely clean it with motor spray, or other degreasing agent, and then re-assemble it as per the instructions. It's a bit "labour-intensive" but it is certainly worth doing. The biggest tip for building the X10, is to take your time! Sounds daft, but like all preds, it's a car that needs to be built, not put together, if you see what I mean. Welcome to the-pred.co.uk by the way! ;D

whats the gears made from now? i did hear they were to be hard anodised alloy,if so you cant bed them in,if they are steel then they will bed in normally after a few battery packs...not that cnc machine cut gears should need bedding in.

The gears have a steel pinion and a composite crown wheel. They should bed themselves in quickly, you are absolutely right, especially with the steel pinion, but this just makes the process a little quicker, and I simply feel it's a little more controlled wear. But then again, I do like to overdo things building cars.
I can't wait till my X10 arrives!

Received my kits yesterday!!! Having never owned or physically held a Pred, I must say the quality of the X10 kit is truly second to none. Unfortunately it sounds like a few items are missing (northy's balls) and/or defective out of the box (the steering link) I have not actually had time to inventory all of the parts to see if my kit shipped with balls or not. I assume it does not have them. It is not a problem since the outdoor offroad racing season is done for the winter in my part of the world and the only place to race offroad indoors is a few hundred miles away.
A couple of oddities I noticed with my kits that no one else seems to have mentioned yet. First being the carbon chassis ID badge. I had two kits (#44 and #231) and with #44 I received the chassis badge and with #231 I got a note saying something like, "We were unsatisfied with the quality of the chassis badges and you will be receiving a new one at a later time." I was not too impressed (sorry TTech) with the chassis badge that came with #44 so perhaps they are correcting them all and sending out new ones to anyone that purchased this option?
The second thing that I've not seen mentioned is an addendum page that was stuffed in the manual for the steering link assembly. I assume this is to address the mis-manufacture of the part in hopes of making it strong enough to withstand use until the replacements arrive. Basically it involved a washer and application of some CA glue. Did the manuals that UK owners got have this addendum? If so, did anyone use the workaround? (Northy?) However, due to the thinness of the steering link, it sounds like this might be a good place to put a slab of 3mm carbon plate to work in the meantime.
Thanks to all the people posting on here. This is a very valuable resource to current and future Pred owners.
'nuff said, MX4

Hi YoKoMo-MX4,
Northy's balls, I like that! ;D
With regards the steering link plate, I glued a 2mm washer on the top side of the plate as I though that a) it didn't look strong enough, and b) the delein posts didn't go far enough into the steering arms. Before I race it again I'm going to make and fit a fibreglass steering link with more "meat" around the holes, and with non countersunk holes.
If you need any more help just ask, I've been racing a Pred (in one shape or another) for years.
Cheers
G

Im still waiting for my X10 to arrive - i check on here every day for any updated pics you guys might be posting - if any of you have pics you can send me please do - my email powerrc@xtra.co.nz
The anticipation of the kit arriving is amazing - ive never been so keen for a kit to arrive.
The first outing for mine will be at the New Zealand North Island champs in November so im glad to see all the faults coming out so i can get my car sorted before then.
Northy thanks for the building tips, ive printed that entire post out to make sure i get it right.
Im going to try and get some of the older predators that i have raced back, then might try and get them all going and take some pics - i have won the past 2 north island titles with a 95 pro.
p.s awesome website really glad i found it
