OK i know im not the only one here who has had problems with the ttech gears, shimming plays an important part into how long your gears will last but generally only a handful of people know how to and the rest end up replacing their gears after/every other race meetings. I got two questions.
1)Is there any other make of gears ie yokomo/academy/tamiya that can be used as an alternative and im talking about a back to back compatability with minimal amount of fuss to get working.
2) I know of a TC3 conversion and ive approached Dave G (used to race a Pred now academy) who may be persuaded to make the necesarry components which i understand is rather time comsuming for a reasonable amount. But this really depends on the demand and how many serious parties willing to part with their money to get the TC3 conversion on their car. Benefits to this is that the TC3 gears last a hell of a lot longer and because their not only cheap but very readily available to purchase at the shops, you like i said wont have to worry about spares backup, as the gears are the only real weak point to this car... So come on peeps...Sign up and lets get some interested people..

I'd wait and see what the gears are like in the new car. I understand the last gears in the P8 were the best the car ever had and lasted much longer than the previous ones. TC3 gears last a long, long time !! My TC3 hasn't had it's gears replaced since I bought it - in the mean time I've moved to the TC4 (same gears again) !! Never once had any gear problems with it. Putting them in Pred gearboxes isn't so straight forward as the bearings are imperial, I've thought about putting HPI Pro4 gears in there - If you've seen them you'll see how near to the Predator gears they are, tooth profile and number of teeth are the same - the pinion (prop shaft gear) is either a 15 or sixteen tooth rather than the Pred's 13 tooth - (All from memory this !, I did do a table of gears and checked out the internal ratios. I think fitting Pro4 or Tamiya Evo3 gears is a lot less work than TC3 ones. The main diff support bearings are exactly the same ones as the Pro 4 uses (or is it the Prop ones ? ) What the car really needs is a floating prop and twin bearings for the prop gears, that would really help them last and support them better. Of course, people have to remember the car is subject to many more shocks off road compared to the 'easy life' the TC3 and Pro4 get running on road - but yes, TC3 gears are fantastic, if they run as well in a Pred as in a TC3 then that's well worth the effort of converting

Pete, if the new car has much better gears and is compatible with the Old chasis's then im sure theres gonna be a lot of happy people who have been itching to get their cars back on rails

This is true, me included - it's the simplest solution as well !

hi the tc3 gears work very well in the preds as i did make some conversions for people about 3 yrs ago,one set in mine lasted a full season racing at regionals and natonals too...and they still hadnt worn when i sold the car they actually fit on the pred outdrives easily enough..its the adaptors that i make that allow the pinion to be in the correct place as well as the right size on the prop,a bit of filing on the gearbox top innnards and shes a winner..easier said than done tho yes i hope the new gears are better so that people can dig out there old preds..you would think after 10 yrs they could get the gears correct..but then again they wouldnt be able to sell new gears all the time would they dave

Cooper - the X10 is apperently £335 (475 euros?) Maybe not as bad as I had thought!
I have some pictures, courtesy of Peter Ellis, that I will upload in the very near future that detail the TC3 gear conversion. Look out on the main website for these. They will be uploaded on Friday evening/Saturday morning.

yeps, I emailed TTech and Richard himself replied with the price, I'm happy because it's within my budget now, (and it's €480 ) as long as it isn't over €500. btw, it was me that forwarded you that email ... edit: and it will have NEW GEARS !!!

I think the gear pics could well have been Dave G's originally, Dave if you're reading this maybe have a see and add a bit of text if you could? I only know what the captions said underneath (they are fairly self-explanatory, ish !)

I had a link from the web with pictures, but now they are off and I don't have them anymore, I'm pretty curious to see them again. DaveG, you have the plans for the adapters on CAD or something or do you wish not to give them? (which I can understand)
