Right, what size is the Spur? The web site shop says 72, the manual and spares list that came with the car says 73. But didn't the old car used to use a 70 tooth? Why the change? And does anyone know the final drive ratio of the transmission? I ran an 18 tooth on my 9 x 2 last weekend indoors, but don't really know what gearing I'm on!

you can count spur is bigger because internal ration < 3.0 (like old cars) that would be a logic explanation...

I emailed Richard last night, here's what he said:
The spur gear is 73T The final drive ratio is 16/39 = 2.4375 : 1

so the new spur will probably NOT fit older cars

What makes you think that?
It looks like it should to me.

it' SUPER close to that thing between carbonpart and motor mount and it's 70T, don't think 3 extra teeth will fit ...
test it when your car is in bits 'n pieces

If/When alternate spur gears become available I'll update the document as needed. If there are any errors, in the chart, let me know. 'nuff said, MX4

What do the colours mean? If they are the recomended ratios then you guys gear way lower than me! ;D Ya, I was thinking I should take the color out to make it UK friendly . I was playing around with highlighting a range (say 11.2:1 up to 9.3:1) so that it would be easier to pick out the 'safe' ratios. Northy, at what range would you gear the X10? As has been pointed out many times elsewhere, UK drivers seem to gear higher than US drivers. Has anyone come up with a real reason for this? I'd think a grass/astro track would need grunt (lower gearing) given the traction. Maybe it is lower ambient temps and/or higher humidity? Do you have to gear down when the weather heats up? What temperature does the motor come off the track at? 'nuff said, MX4

Ooopps, I think the beer made me type lower when I meant higher! Just as an example I ran a 9x2 at 9.9:1 last weekend, and would possiblly go a little lower (9.3) outdoors. I have been known to get into the 8's and even 7's with 10 and 11 turn motors. I am known by my friends though for gearing "stupidly high" as they put it. How does that compare to you guys?

the new spur fits the old car, the new metal gears fit on the old car have not tried diffs yet.
the old spur fits in the new car as i found out when i went racing!!!
as far as gearing is concerned it depends on motor type and cooling as well, running a v2 endbell and a fan give you a little more flexibility but i know a team driver that gears very high and skims and changes brushes every round with two fans over his motor.......
