I have a Novak GTB which will be going in my touring car soon, bit it did try and fit it my X10 before I put the proper electronics in. It was way too tall. it did almost fit the back though (where most people have the receiver). and it was agonisingly close to fitting. the problem was the rear corner of the chassis is rounded, if it was squarer it would have just fit

Hi electronics in the x-10 (mine, all mine) ko pds-2363,Lrp QC-2, Novak XXL, peak 12x2 in a aluminum end bell motor case (trinity if memory serves) oh yes and a 25x25x5 mm 5 volt fan directly behind the end bell. About the brushless setup, I had a few frustrating minutes trying to fit the GTB in the car but there are only two ways as far as I can see and both involve modifying the chassis or the servo to some extent: 1.make a plate of aluminum the thin stuff (1-1.5 mm thick) to fit on the servo with double sided tape (a few layers if need be) and to stretch across the chassis over the main shaft then bend 90 degrees and a few mm later a 45 degree bend in order of meeting the strengthening rib at the bottom of the chassis pan. to secure the metal plate to the rib I suggest two small diameter screws with locking nut on the other side. this platform should be situated right in the middle of the car and above the main shaft. However if you choose to do this mod be careful of flipping on to the roof as bad landing will put a lot of tension on the body shell and if it's cracked in the wrong places it will collapse innards, if that happens you may only have to replace the fan that sits on top of the ESC but in a worst case scenario (getting a BIG jump wrong & landing on the roof, ouch..) the plate might bend & that means gluing a new shaft because the one in the car would shatter... 2.This is much simpler: cut the mounting ears off the steering servo's case and move it closer to the front of the car, glue it to the chassis with good double sided tape. this will give you much more space to mount the ESC behind the servo directly on the chassis (lowering the CG along the way.
cheers

Darren, I have measured the GTB speed control and it appears that it would fit behind the servo (where most people have the RX). But other people have said it does not fit. Where and how have you got your GTB fitted.

Hey Kenny - for those of you that race 12th scale, you will remember back in the day when we would remove the Rx casing to save weight - but this also made the unit smaller. We can get the best of both worlds by using the spektrum system, where the antennae is very short, but the IC board is quite large - I removed the casing for the RX and placed it on the servo, which left just enough room to place the GTB & wiring harness, and the Rx antennae is around some lexan. The last few weeks I have been running brushed as we have been running only 5 minute quals., but I will see if I can fnd a photo for you.

I used an Airtonics 358 servo, a Spektrum receiver mounted on the servo, a Novak GTX in the place where most seem to place the receiver, and either a 12x2 or 10x1 Trinity Cobalt motor. Using this method, I will be placing my GTB brushless system in the Pred in a couple of weeks. Will let you know how it goes in.
