I broke mine at kidderminster in the 3rd round at the first meeting of the winter series, the car had done 4 runs including practice with a 9x2 in. When i asked Mr. Weatherley to set my rear diff he set it a lot loser than i had it. I therefore think that having the diff to tight can contribute to braking the pinions. He also said its more important to set the diffs right than the slipper

Running a 10x2 Checkpoint motor. Done about 45-50 Heats/finals. The outer part of the square part on the gear has spread and the shaft spins freely. Quick fix on sunday was to glue it to shaft. Removed it ok earlier. If this new collar is breaking what is the next best thing to do?

Ralphy: Had a look at my diffs earlier and in the book it says that it should be JUST possible to make the gear slip.(no chance with mine) I have since rebuilt them both and they slip slightly. Tried phoning T/Tech and got the answer phone? Do they do a diff building service?

as far as i know t.tech do not do a build service. All you need is a fastrax diff tool (or a pair of old scissors!) to hold the diff haleves whilst you try to turn the diff wheel.
Just tighten up the diff screw until the diff wheel doesn't turn when you push it with your thumb, and then back the screw off slightly.
...taken from another forum, posted by Richard W... "When I build a car I don't threadlock the screw, or degrease it. I build the diff and adjust it, as described in the manual, then assemble it in to the car and secure the gearbox tops. Place a drip of thin CA (tyre glue) onto a 1.5mm driver, and with the car on its side, carefully place the glue droplet into the centre of short diff half. Effectively into the M2 hole where the diff screw is, NOT THE THRUST RACE SIDE.
Enough glue gets around the threads of the M2 screw to stop it from rattling loose, but it does not permanently bond it. Be careful with the glue though, and after a few seconds to allow the glue to penetrate the threads, remove any excess glue with tissue, before turning the car the right way up again."
Hope this helps

For those of you who have snapped the ears off of the pinions, I had this happen to the rear pinion as well. I started a thread further down the page about how I fixed this using the original broken pinion so I wouldn't have to spend $20 plus american dollars just for a new one. I actually had some inner races from some deteriorated bearings, that I used as saver rings before this even happened, they didn't seem to help. With the modded pinion it now has more material on the ears plus the ears ride inside of the gearbox bearing also acting as a saver ring. So far I have had no problems with it!

Phoned T/Tech earlier. 'O' Rings and pinion gear savers have arrived and will be sent out on Friday.

I only got Richard Weatherley to set my diff as he was at the meeting that i broke the pinion at. At the time i was the first to have broken the pinion. Although ttech had broken one on the test car the week before Richard said on the test car they set the diffs to tight etc. to see what breaks. I was surprised after he set it how lose you can set the diff without it slipping to much as i had set the diffs as i would a 'normal' car. So i now believe as i have said before that i feel this contributes a great deal to them breaking, but the new ring is a very simple fix.

Received the Pinion collars, 3mm shock seals and front gearbox top yeserday. Gearbox top looks the same as the original one that came with car. Supposibly it has Even stronger mounting points for the Rocker Crank Pivots. Shock seals are a lot better than originals. Pinion collars are not thick enough.(only 1mm thick) Will keep an eye on these when i race X10 next year for wear and tare.(will make some thicker ones at work)

I have received the new front/rear springs for the X10. Which springs would be best suited for The Astro track at Coventry and what weight oil would you use.
