Is anyone else snapping rear drive shafts? Currently i have now broken 4 rear drive shafts as the pin seems to come out over time and mangle the Diff out drives and plastic drive shaft cap. Was this an issue with the old car? I have been finding that replacing the plastic drive shaft cap often has helped alot as i am finding these tend to wear quickly but the problem seems to be the pin in the end of the shaft is comming out! It does look a small pin to take the load? Any ideas? Cheers Si

are you snapping the actual driveshaft or the pin?
it's not something I have ever encountered on a pred. The plastic end does wear quite quickly, but if you put a good amount of super glue over the cap, that seems to reduce the wear rate, obviously being careful not to glue it totally to the driveshaft.
I presume you have checked to make sure the transmission is not binding in any way, which would out undue stress on the driveshafts?
is there any similarity between when the driveshafys snap? Is it always the same driveshaft? Is it after a bug jump for example, or a point where there is more stress on the transmission?

We only ever snapped 2 drive shaft pins in 4 years on the P8 but it can happen. Have a look to see how much droop you are running, if you run too much the bud drive can get into the chamfered end of the outdrive and this can momentarily jam the driveshaft off a jump. I have known this to cause pin breakage. Phill.

It is the pin that is an issue. It seems to work its way out of the drive shaft or breaks off. What seems to be the most common fault for me is the pin works its way out of the shaft so it only sticks out one side of the shaft,
The plastic drive cup then breaks which means the drive shaft with the pin spins in the diff out drive and makes a nice mess!
It is not happening on a particular part of a track. I have been changing the caps regularly.
I woundered if anyone else has had this issue?
Is there anything i should do to the shafts to make the pin more secure such as epoxy the pin around the joint on the drive shaft and into the plastic drive cup?

I've had one pin come loose on my new X10, I just super glued it.
I've also had one pin break, I just thought this was maybe a one off bad pin as I've never had any trouble in the past with my old cars.
I've also noticed if you have too much droop the drive shaft catches on the end of the diff half, you need to watch this.
