Can anybody enlighten me as to how the springs go on my Fantom Vortec V2 motor (I think it's the same as an Orion) ? During rebuilding I know you insert them from the outside, putting the small end of the spring in first, but how far in do the springs sit? Is the 'large' end of the spring supposed to locate just inside the rim edge of the copper tube, or quite a bit further inside?? Cheers

i have just rebuilt one of them motors, and the springs came out and went back in from the inside....
the spring holder did not allow the top of the spring (the larger end) in from the outside, and when it was inserted back in the tube, I simply put the brush braid through the spring and pushed them both up the tube together. The spring just stopped when it could go no further.
If you put the spring in from the outside, does that not mean there is nothing to stop the spring flying out apart from the brush braid? Surely that can't be good.

Well, according to the Orion website you remove the spring from the inside, but re-insert from the outside, and apparently it simply 'clicks' into position. Except mine doesn't ;D
So on your V2 Chris, does your spring seat quite near the outside rim edge of the copper brush tube? or is the spring fully tucked away further down the tube..?
Cheers

the tubes on my v2 don't appear to allow the spring to be inserted from the outside, unless the obstruction was the bit that holds them in place on the inside.....
the spring sits quite high towards the very top of the tube, with probably about 1mm clearance before the end of the tube.
I think the best thing to do here is to wait for Yardy to pass by...
