I've just bought a fan to fit in my Pred as I'm sick of cooking motor brushes and comms. My Reedy KR 9x2 only lasted one run before it needed skimming and new brushes at a Regional not too long ago!  Just wondered how others had fitted one if they have, or if people would like to see pictures of mine fitted once I've done it? Cheers G |

I dont run fans with my cars, but then again, I don't run 9's either! I think a photo would be good as a reference point for other drivers though. The main question has to be this though, is the fan "blowing" air over the motor or "sucking" air across the motor?  |

Whats wrong with 9's? That's all I run these days! ;D They are so well suited to the Pred. I have been tempted to get an 8 for it, but not yet. Anyway, I haven't fitted it yet, but I'm going to fit it so that it blows air over the endbell and brushes as this is the most important part.  |

will there be sufficient room for a fan?
I have been running a 12 double (reedy PT) in my X10, and whilst the motor has got hot, it's not been any hotter than you would expect. It wasn't even hot enough to turn the brushes blue....maybe the 9's etc are diffferent, but with the transmission being as free as it is, there is not that much stress on the motor is there?
maybe it's the older speed control causing the problem, delivering a frequency that isn't correct for todays hotter motors?

maybe you are just to generous on the trottle ? I also blow up several motors  now not anymore, trained my finger but I guess your finger is also trained  so I don't really know what could cause it |

What ratio are you running on the 11?
The Pred can stand high gearing ;D

I run a 16, 15 pinion on my 11*2
and it's already going ballistic

Divide the pinion into the spur then multiply by the gearbox ratio. (70/16) x 2.6 = 11.375 (70/15) x 2.6 = 12.133 Personally I'd be running a gear ratio of ~9.7 on an 11 these days Do yourself an Excel spread sheet to work them all out. |
