I think they are supposed to pop out of the gear box top on a hard impact to prevent anything from breaking. This is an assumption though, I have yet to have one pop out nor have I broke any suspension part except a front hub carrier. They have a very short rounded end that is pressed into the gearbox top, the side that goes into the upper suspension arm is just a shaft long enough to go all the way into the arms pivot hole. the short end kind of looks like a hat shape. It has a flange so it can't keep pushing into the gearbox covers hole. It's so short on the gearbox end that in theory it will pop out instead of breaking something on an impact.

they don't work I broke a gearbox top during a cartwheeling excercise, and lost the crash pin in the process. The gearbox top broke in the traditional place. having said that, I found them very hard to fit into the gearbox lugs, so maybe if I enlarged the hole ever so slightly then they would have done their intended job.

Richard has to redesign it, there is waaay to less plastic around the holes. against the rules of mechanics.

I also trashed a gearbox top cover today. My X10 grip rolled cartwheeled and ripped the front suspension rocker out of the gearbox top cover.

conical holes/pins would be an option, pops better I think and still sits secure

Seen the crash pins in the oople review, they didn't look any special at all, and not as discribed as above.... can anyone help me with a picture? this is the last thing I need for my car now... EDIT: reread it and I get it now, the small thingy is the thing that goes into the lug, not the arm... (still want pictures lol) I'm also going to experiment with antennatubes as crash pins

I've just finished using an antennatube as 'crash pin' I've put it true completely, if it doensn't work I'll pull it back a bit so it can pop out .... the idea now is that it can bend and doens't put stress on the plastic.

Don't think they'll be strong enough Coop, don't they flex? That would effect handling.

Don't think they'll be strong enough Coop, don't they flex? That would effect handling. not at all ! If they flex to much I can still put a 1mm piece of metal in it but it is only a very short piece so if it flexes it is only a veeeeeery little bit. If your upper arms are worn the suspension has more play !
