???Does everyone grease their axles as per the manual or do you run them dry? I used to grease the axles in our touring cars but found that it attracted grit and was doing more harm than good so I now run them dry. Also are there any other drive discs/hexs that fit to enable the use of different wheels or are there other wheels avaible to fit the standard drive discs? Last question does anybody drill a small hole in their rims to allow air in/out? Sorry to be a nuisance but any advice appreciated, thanks.

Hey Gramey, For the axles, I use TAMIYA A/W grease on the differential side with some tape to hold it it. It doesn't attract that much dirt, as the sides are covered, but dirt does get in there. As for the axle/shaft, I use the very hard to find FSR Lube, it is the same as the old TTECH lube and works great. Just maintain your axles and your axles won't bind. If they can't last 5 minutes between inspection, maybe you should analyze your driving style? I average around 5 packs before really ripping them apart and cleaning/rebuilding. Touring cars are also much harder on drive train components that off-road due to the instant traction I find. No one as of yet makes an adapter for the rims. I have successfully drilled a hole through a set of axles using a vise and drill press, but I think it weakens axle significantly. In Canada/USA, we don't drill hols on the rims, as it is counterproductive. Use a leather punch to punch the tire, to allow water dirt and debris to fly out. This also enables a faster rebound. Drilling a hole in the rim allows for a faster rebound, but doesn't let any debris or water/moisture out.

Hi Graeme
I personally run the driveshafts dry on all of my off-road cars, and the X10 is no different. I have not noticed significant wear on the parts either. When I built the car, and when I rebuild the car, I actually soak the driveshafts in whitespirits to degrease them.
Darren is spot on with the other bits, but I do drill holes in the wheel, I put one hole about 3-5mm diameter in each wheel.

:)Thanks for the advice guys, I shall try running the shafts dry in future and put a small hole in the rims. I appreciate what Darren has said as to why he puts them in the tyre rather than the rim but I'd already glued my tyres before I asked the question so I shall do the rims this time. The reason I asked about the drive discs/wheels is because I got dish wheels with the kit, dish wheels in the spares pack and dish wheels when ordered seperately, but I've seen several with 5 spoke wheels fitted. Any idea who's wheels these are and where you get them from?

the 5spoke wheels are from the pre X10/XRS Imperium and officially don't fit. But everything can be done ofcourse, and it has been done.

darren:
You mentioned above that you drilled holes in the axles to accept other rims. What problems did you run into, did the axles break or bend from this? I would love to be able to run my Losi wheeler rims on this car and have given thought to trying what you already did. I wish TTech would consider manufactureing some axles that would allow other rims or even an adaptor hub to allow this would be great. It doesn't seem like making an aluminum adaptor hex hub for the front would be hard at all but to make a hub with a raised slot to fit rims with a pin slot in them would be a pain. I am kinda curious as to how many ohter people would like to be able to use other rims on these cars. I have tons of losi rims!

:)I for one would like to see some choice in what I fit to ours, not necessarily the ability to fit other manufacturers wheels, I would be quite happy to stay with ttech. We've found that using the dish wheels they just fill up with grass/mud as theres no way for it to escape hence my interest in the 5 spokes.

It isn't that I have had a problem, it is 2 things though. 1) is that it takes FOREVER to do, and the axles are so small, that you have to be really careful, I found that it took me 45-50 minutes per axle. I drilled on the already flat area to help, but the axle kept slipping out of the vise. Plus, getting them 100% in the middle is a chore in itself trying not to let the drill slip! I have also tried to experiment with the older style kyosho taper hex, which I think will prove to be a bit better, but the offset may make the car a bit wide. I will let you now.

If you alter the X drive disks slightly the old 5 spoke wheels will fit. You will also still be able to fit the new wheels.

:)Where can you buy the 5 spoke wheels and how durable are they, not bothered about saving the rims once the tyres are worn out but are they prone to cracking or are they o.k.?

you can't buy them anymore, unless your LHS happens to have a set lying around. they are/were very strong indeed, and i think they were made byJC wheels or RPM or somebody like that. They were not actually moulded by t.tech. they look bloody great though!

:(If anyone from ttech reads this thread what are the chances of the 5 spoke wheels becoming available again? It's quite possible that there is a demand out there for them.....

:(Less than impressed with the dish wheels, two DNF's today due to one wheel cracking right across through the hub and the centre tearing out of the second one. Different wheels, different sides on each occasion but both rears. The crashes I had did not appear to be any worse than anyone else's and I'm running a 17x2 Raven S motor so theres not huge amounts of power going through them. Anyone else suffering similar problems with these wheels?
