As TTech no longer do their own gear grease ( I think ?) I just wondered which grease people are using ? I know the old tip was to fully grease the pinion and this amount is ample on the mesh when the crown wheel is fully rotated , but what do people run - just building my car and at the 'wonder what grease to run' stage before the gearbox tops go on...

Peter - i still use the t.tech grease....i bought lots of it once upon a time. ;D
TBH i would have thought associated white grease would be good enough too.

I just use a little proper car wheel bearing grease. I'm not sure if you should use silicone (white/clear) grease or not as it is not a lubricant! Think about it guys, and let me know how I know that. ;D G

I think the instructions say grease, just not the type - don't think I'm brave enough to run dry - but I know other cars do , Yokomo MR-4 TC SD ? and our Xray M18's have always run dry.
Hmm Chris, the green gear grease ? - collectors item...

Sorry, my answer was aimed at Northy more than you ;D
Having said that, I don't run any grease on my gears and they seem absolutely fine BUT I'd rather you took the advice of those that have used their Pred's more than me, as mine has only run for half a dozen meetings..

I used Losi, AE stealth & HPI at one time or another on the X10 gears with no ill effects as far as wear to the gears is concerned. If you run them dry I think they will wear a bit quicker producing some "dust" from the crown gear but will stop doing that as they "seat" themselves in. Best to use grease me thinks.

Right, the clear(ish) silicone grease we use on our diff balls (not trust races) is not a lubricant. If it was your diff would just slip. I know someone who built his diff with the wrong grease and he had no drive. G

:)Personally I don't grease the gears in our Preds or our TC's, am I doing it wrong? I stopped using grease on the gears sometime ago on our TC's when I found that any debris just stuck to the gears and became a grinding paste so I've never bothered with the Preds either. Whats the common consensus of opinion, to grease or not to grease that is the question?

It's up to you. I only put a real little bit on. Slop (Graham Alsop) used to run the old ones dry and said it made no difference to their life.
Cheers,
G
