Are there any spurs I can run besides the ones ttech sells? I'd much rather walk into my LHS and pick up spurs instead of waiting a week and a half for them to arrive in the mail.

I don't know if there are any direct fit ones from any other manufacturer, but I have modded a Kimbrough spur to fit as a life saver. It is time consuming to do though the hardest part is getting the center hole bigger and in the dead center so it will run true. Would be easier with a drill press, but with regular hand tools it's a pain, then you have to sand down the holes where the diff balls go so that the spur is narrow enough for the other side of the spipper plates square hole to overlap the square on the other side. If you can find one with a center hole large enough to fit all you would need to do is sand it thin enough to fit between the two slipper plates. The other problem is the tooth count, I used a 72 but the only other jump is to a 75 and that will hit the motor mount brace tub, also rubs bottom of chassis. Maybe someone else on here has found another manufacturers that is suitable! the 73 tooth count is rare.

I don't think there is a direct fit alternative. Be careful though as the material of the TTech spur performs the slipper action so to speak. A soft plastic spur might melt Why not just order a couple and carry them in your box? G

Because I need one now, not in a week, and I don't have a way of ordering them online (no card). I guess I'll have to wait, oh well.

All this time I thought this car had a standard pitch spur gear! Nice, I just found out yesterday that it is Metric pitch when I compared it to a Kimbrough 72 tooth spur the predator spur was noticable smaller. Crap! All this time I have been running it with standard pinions. I realise the car is metric being it's origins but most cars use standard regardless, I never gave it any thought untill I held the spurs next to one another. Guess I'll have to get some metric pinions. Am I the only one?

Yep ;D I'm running standard 48pitch pinions with no problems. I've never stripped a spur and the current (original kit) one shows little wear... 'nuff said, MX4

well it's not 100% true, if you compare and old TTech spur (70t) with a new one (72t) they also have the same diameter !!
They altered the pitch a very very tiny bit so they could put 2 more teeth for the same diameter.
and what do you understand as 'standard' and 'metric' standard= like Losi and asso and metric= tamiya ?
I must say I've always used the same pinions for my B4 for my pred (this is with the 70T spur!)

When I refer to standard pitch I am just refering to inch" 48 pitch tooth pitch as in comparison to metric 48 pitch, not in reference to the manufacturer but the actual measurement. I always thought that it wasn't good to use a inch' 48 pitch pinion with a metric 48 pitch spur or vice versa. I know Robinson Racing makes metric pinions, might have to pick up a set! It would also seem that even though they might be close enough to run with each other with no real problems, such as wear issues, it would seem like they would be quiter and more efficient if running the same pitch!

Hey Wailingonya I must say I never heard of this 48 pitch metric thingy. I have always used 48P in all of my cars exclusively Losi pinions or Robinson pinions as to spurs it varies widely (lately Speedmind for my TC). I always knew of the metric stuff (Tamiya 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 pitch) but never tried to stick with it as the pinions were always alloy & the spurs were plastic "bendy" crap, they wore out at an alarming rate so they were replaced with 48P asap. how about it then am I missing info on the subject? enlighten me please.

Right i'll try and be helpful, Firstly remember it is 48 DP (diametric pitch) This link will show a book which is useful for stuff like this, www.tool-up.co.uk/shop/diy/MISZCC.html?gclid=COOtiKvK4IkCFSOZEAodd0qUGgImperial measurement (called standard by the septics) Diametric pitch (DP) = number of teeth (N) / diameter (PDi) inches DP = 48 teeth / 1 in= 48 DP = 36 teeth / .75 in = 48 The metric rating: Module (mod) = diameter (PDm) millimeters / number of teeth (N) MOD = 24 mm / 48 teeth = .5 MOD = 18 mm / 36 teeth = .5 To explain the description diametric pitch is an IMPERIAL measurement term. The metric term is Module, with gearing this is only used by Tamiya in electric buggy's but feel free to shoot me down on this one!! Which means that 48 DP gears cannot be metric or imperial, they can only be imperial.

It appears I was wrong anyways! I picked up 2 Metric 48 Pitch pinions the other day (Robinson Racing) and the tooth profile was actually larger than the standard 48 pitch pinions that I own, not smaller as I originally thought they would be. They were noticably larger in diameter than the same tooth count standard pinions that I have! I guess the Pred does use standard pitch, it just has an odd tooth profile to make the spur smaller than normal. Learn something new everyday!
