Hi,
since I got my X10 togeather, I have noticed that the 1st movement of the suspension is sloppy. I also noted that the shocks leaked as fast as oil was put in.
Following some of the shock build tips, I replaced the rubber and this stopped the leaks, but I cannot seem to get 100% of the air out of the shocks. Other shocks from Kyosho, AE & Losi I don't get the same problem.
Now I know that you may tell me that it's just going to take time to get the procedure correct and thats a fair call.
But my question is that if you turn the front shocks around 180 degrees so the plastic balljoint is connected to the chassis, this removes the 2-3mm slop at the bottom of the stroke (now the slop's at the top of the stroke.
Does anyone else do this?
Thanks Litespeed

I would say not....
if you build the shocks exactly as per the instructions you shouln't have any air in them at all, as you "overfill" them with oil, put in the pistons and this forces the excess oil out in what is basically an airtight envorinment.
Are you sure that the slop isn't caused by some of the fittings being a little loose?

I used to do that on my P8, but haven't on the X10, don't really know why.

Hi,
thanks for the replys.
There is next to no slop in the suspension itself. I took the shocks off and if they are in my hand vertical with the balljoint at pointing towards the roof, then I get about 2-3mm "dead zone' where you know there is air.
If I turn the shocks 180 degrees, then this air gap is at the top of the stroke, therefore slop only happens when the shock is totally compressed.
All other cars run their shocks like this and I wonder if this is why.
Thanks I'll refill the shocks again tonight to test.

:)Hi litespeed, I've already stated my dislike for the bottom filling shocks used on the X10/XRS but with practice and a lot of wasted shock oil you can get them free of air. Also are you sure what you have is air in the shock and not just sag (droop) in the suspension? If your shocks have got air in them they usually making a squeaking noisy when compressed.

Building the shocks was one of the easiest tasks for me with this kit honestly. I had no problems with the shocks and very happy with them. As stated before you overfill the shocks, try to softly merge the pieces together so there is a nice seal around the foam.
I did use associated green slime on the o-rings, as a tip.
