A couple of points and ideas really.
For anyone looking for a cheap heatsink with fan try the 3 racing fan heatsink in many pretty colours, only £8 in uk stores. But my pred still gets very hot so where else can i fit fans and how many can i get in there?
Could i mount fans behind the ducts in the shell? As above but mounted directly to the shell?
Should i fit a small fridge? Would running the car with a much more motor cooler affect the handling too much?
This is a serious question as my motors like to turn brushes purple and comms blue

isn't it better to look at the source of the problem rather than dealing with the effects? You know what I mean: gearing (look at Tom's report), driving style, and that kind of stuff other than that, what does blowing in cold air help if the hot air can't come out..... hot air also needs a larger hole for the same amount of air. (hotter = more shaking of the elements so taking more room)

If you are running very hot, you should have two fans, but the fans should be of the 5 volt variety (the novak one is a very good option), reason being the move a lot more air trough them at a higher speed. the 3 racing one is a 7.2 volt & is slower therefore not blowing cool enough for a long suffering motor. I had bought a bunch of them but they were not fast enough for me, also they suck air away from the motor instead of blowing cold air onto it, that just ... well ... sucks. I also had good experience with a thinner version of the same size fan the novak made by Atomic (can be fitted in very small places). One thing worth mentioning that people seem to forget is to make a connector for the wires of the fans so you can get the motor out for maintenance. Most important before gluing the fans on the chassis check that the magnetic field of the motor dose not stop the fan from turning, the area on the right of the motor is notorious for this.

doesn't a 5V fan burn out on 8V ? I have one here from an old laptop to go into my pred but I was not sure if I had to put a resistor between or not.

pro4nutsThe 3 racing fan sucks so as to draw air through the heat sink and cool the heat sink which is drawing heat from the motor. As far as looking at the source of the problem, i believe this to be air flow over the motor end bell and can. I am tempted to cut a slot in the rear of the shell and bend the plastic inwards to provide an exhaust vent for the air pushed through the front holes. What i have found though is that the holes in the fron tof the shell are nearly useless for encouraging air flow as simply the air cannot flow. In fact cutting the slots open in effect creates an air brake, also with air being pushed through a big whole and out through the small gaps at the rear of the shell does this not generate heat by in effect compressing the air molecules into a tighter space. I have tired running the car indoors with a shell with no holes in it and have found the temperature of the motor to no higher.
