So much choice arround at the moment, but I feel that the battery market is a little clouded in BS at the moment ;D Anyway, what will you be running next year? I'm tempted to try some IB 3800's

I just ordered 5 packs of 3700's matched by Demon....I ran my old Demon 2400's for almost two years, and only stopped using them because my son started racing, and he got them. So, I am hoping for good things from them
I agree with Northy about the BS in the cell market though. And, do we really need 4200mah cells? I can't remember the last time I ran out of juice with my cells in either 2 or 4wd as it is.

I read that the 4300's are "almost identical" to the 3700's! And it actually says on the label typ capacity 4100mAh!

uh ?? let the touring guys test it for us capacitiy depends on what rate they are discharged and labelled I guess the 'identical' part will be the voltage maybe ?

the 'identical' part will be the voltage maybe ? No I think thats the whole point (and the BS), some seem to think they are the same cell.

Wait and see what is the best. The new list of cells are not legal till April, that gives us 2 months to see what is best.

expensive cells are for touring touring is for girls we aren't girls Sweet logic Coop! I'm currently running some 2 and 3 year old GP3300's (matched by SMC) ... I'm thinkin it's time for an upgrade too. From what I've read online and heard from a couple of fellow hardcore R/C racing friends is that the IB 3800's are the ticket right now. Best price/performance and whatnot. Reallistically, though, I think most people could get by with 35Amp matched GP3300's ... their probably a bit cheaper than a high end IB 3800 pack too. 'nuff said, MX4

I read this about the 4100 <-> 4300 story
they are rated 4100 but when you discharge them they are waaay over 4100 add a little psychology *et voila* !

EXTREME version matched cells by Express Motor Sports (I got these from DTCRC) I have never seem 35 Amp numbers like these! Good bye SMC! Hello Express! All are either GP3700's or IB3800's, but the IB's are really tempermental. I am also running a fantom 10 x 1 motor, Keyence ESC (exstraight) and Airtronics 359 servo. All controlled by my trusty M11 radio w/ Spektrum system.

Darren, can you tell me what you mean with the IB's? Whats tempremental about them? Are they worth it?
Asking as I've never tried any.
Cheers,
G

The IB cells are known for being tempermantal as far as sensitivity to charge rates, and especially venting and cells "going bad" prematurely". I have had 1 cell go bad, but it was replaced no questions asked, I do believe that most manufacturers do this. The IB's have awesome numbers, I have 2 or 3 packs that are 1.3 IR, 520's and 1.21+ volts. I have heard though that the 4200's have no issues though, but they aren't legal for racing yet.

Cells for next year hmmm, I don't know really. I've had IB3600 go bad (from the first run of these cells) I replaced them with the new 3600 (which are said to be similar to the 3800). but the last 3800 that came out were the best of the lot (b4 the 4200 came out). personally I find it hard to say I need more capacity than a 3300 has to offer but the average voltage of the 3800 & the 3700-sp2 make for a big difference in the power delivery/punch. you can see the difference in the first few minutes of the heat/run if you have 2 cars that are the same running side by side. If I would have to choose one cell only for next year right now, I'd say go with 3700-sp2 or 3800 not the 4200 or 4300 for the simple reason that I don't need or use that much capacity in one run of 5 min. if I were running a 1/12 scale 8 min racer on carpet than I would reconsider my choice. If I would take a guess I'd say that the 4200 & 4300 would be even more finicky and go bad even more easily than the 3800 & 3700 are at the moment, and that isn't very good. I believe If you were to waver from what will be a very strict regime of charging/discharging you would loose that pack. however this is only what I think/assume based on my experience.
